Chowder is a thick hearty soup/stew usually prepared with seafood.
Basic chowder ingredients may include gentle spices like thyme, salt pork or
bacon, onion, and milk or tomatoes. In addition to traditional seafood chowders,
the most famous of which is clam, there are vegetable, meat, and combinations
of vegetable and meat chowders. Today's recipe is one I made often, though I
am not fond of chowders.
CORN CHOWDER
8 slices diced bacon
1 small onion sliced
2 17 ounce cans cream-style corn
2 cups cubed cooked potatoes
1 cup of half-half or light cream

1 1/2 cups cubed American cheese [optional]

. Add corn, potatoes, milk, 2 1/2 cups hot water and the seasonings.
.Simmer til .hot. Place cheese in soup just before serving., if desired.

ReplyDeleteSounds delicious. All my hubby's favorite ingredients cream, cheese and bacon!!! Oh by the way, he is a heart patient!!! what to do, what to do?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Joe would love it, but I can't bring myself to make something that has a base of warm milk. The cheese and bacon might make it palatable, but I'm grossed out by cream-style corn, too.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever had corn chowder but it sounds delish!
